Mission Statement: "The Self-Made Man is of a man carving himself out of stone. It represents the spirit of the Charlotte 49ers, meaning that we are self-made. The Gold Reel Student Film Festival was made by students for students. In a sense,
our Festival is Self-Made.

THE GOLD REEL
FILM FESTIVAL X

2023 was our tenth anniversary and the first year the festival took place off-campus in the Independent Picture House.
Our audience filled the theater's 115 seats and had an additional 20 people in the aisle and another 15-20 in the lobby who were unable to enter the theater.

This was the first year in which our winners were given cash prizes by local film businesses and organizations like The Carolina Film Network, Susie Films, Wheel House Media and Glenn Roberson of New Trick Films.
