2014
THE UNCC FILM FESTIVAL
In 2008, the UNC Charlotte Film Club sponsored the first UNCC Film Festival. The Festival was
overseen by the Film Studies department.
In 2014, the UNCC Film Festival presented 26 Films and 3 screenplays in competition.

THE GOLD REEL STUDENT
FILM FESTIVAL
In 2015, the leadership of the Film Club decided to produce the Festival themselves and changed the name of the event to the Gold Reel Student Film Festival.


2016
THE GOLD REEL STUDENT

In 2016, the leadership of the Film Club moved the event to the auditorium in Storrs and was
supported by the UNCC College of Arts & Architecture.
2017
THE GOLD REEL STUDENT
FILM FESTIVAL
In 2017, the Festival was held in Storrs on a Saturday night. The theme of the Festival centered on the Self Made Man
sculpture on the UNC Charlotte campus.

Mission Statement: "The Self-Made Man is of a man carving himself out of stone. It represents the spirit of the Charlotte 49ers, meaning that we are self-made. The Gold Reel Student Film Festival was made by students for students. In a sense,
our Festival is Self-Made.


2018
UNCCinema Showcase
In 2018, the Festival was held on a Monday afternoon in McKnight Hall.
Mission statement:
“By students for students, the UNCCinema Showcase is an exhibition dedicated to
showcasing exceptional work by UNCC students. It's more than just a showcase, it's an experience; a walk in the mind of the creator; a peak of a future star; a childhood dream brought to life.”
2019
UNCC Cinema Showcase
In 2019, the Festival was held on
a Thursday evening in Belk Gym.
Students secured food donations from Suarez Bakery and Jimmy Johns. The Film Studies head, Dr. Robert Reimer, donated $50 to offset additional purchases for
the Festival.


2020
UNDERGROUND STUDENT FILM SHOWCASE
In 2020, the Showcase was affected by the COVID pandemic and the event was forced to move online.
The Showcase was streamed live on YouTube on a Monday evening.
2021
THE PICKS & FLICKS STUDENT FILM SHOWCASE
In 2021, the pandemic once again forced the Showcase to be held online.
The Showcase was streamed live on Zoom on a Friday night.


2022
THE GOLDEN REEL STUDENT FILM FESTIVAL
In 2022, the Festival was again held in
person at McKnight Hall on Thursday,
April 28th @ 6:30 p.m.
The class produced a downloadable
brochure with profiles of the filmmakers,
descriptions of the films, and profiles of the class members.
Total audience attendance was over 90 people.
A Gold Prize was given for Best Film
and a Silver Prize for Second Place.
Additionally, awards were given for Best
Cinematography, Best Acting, and an
Audience Award.
2023
THE GOLD REEL
FILM FESTIVAL X
2023 was our tenth anniversary and the first year the festival took place off-campus in the Independent Picture House.
Our audience filled the theater's 115 seats and had an additional 20 people in the aisle and another 15-20 in the lobby who were unable to enter the theater.

This was the first year in which our winners were given cash prizes by local film businesses and organizations like The Carolina Film Network, Susie Films, Wheel House Media and Glenn Roberson of New Trick Films.
